Radio in Alpe-Adria

The ‘Alps-Adriatic region’ is the name given to an amalgamation of various Central European regions. The Alps-Adriatic region includes the Austrian federal states of Carinthia, Styria and Burgenland, the Italian regions of Veneto (Veneto) and Friuli Venezia Giulia (Friuli Venezia Giulia), Slovenia, parts of western Hungary (Vas and Baranya counties) and the whole of Croatia.

In a narrower sense, however, there is often only talk of Carinthia, Slovenia and north-east Italy.
This is often regarded as the ‘heartland’ of the Alps-Adriatic region. This is where the ‘feeling of togetherness’ is already greatest today. Many cross-border projects are being realised under the slogan ‘senza confini’. Furthermore, many businesses and organisations are dedicated to the topic (for example, there is the Atrio ‘shopping senza confini’ shopping centre in Villach), which particularly emphasises the three-country focus. Gastronomy and tourism are also focussed on the interaction between Slovenia, Italy and Austria.

However, the fact that Western Hungary and Upper Austria are also members of the Alps-Adriatic Working Community is often forgotten.

Important goals of the Alps-Adriatic Working Community are the dismantling of borders, also in the minds of the people, towards a united Europe and to strengthen the co-operation of the individual regions. Further information can be found on the Community’s homepage.

The area is also varied: it ranges from the highest mountains of the Eastern Alps to the famous beaches of the Upper Adriatic and Croatia, via the plains and hilly landscapes of Hungary and Styria to the Croatian Adriatic coast.

The radio scene is as varied as the landscape. There are relatively few radio programmes in Austria and Hungary, while Slovenia and Italy, which is very liberal in this area, offer a wealth of radio programmes.

Summarised on the individual pages you will find more information on programmes in the Alps-Adriatic region and more detailed information.
